Ras Al Khaimah is changing its maritime sector with Saqr 2.0, a new port and free zone opening in 2027. The project covers 8 million square meters of waterfront land. It will have deep-water berths, advanced warehousing, and a green ship recycling facility.
Roy Cummins, CEO of RAK Ports, highlighted Saqr 2.0’s importance. “We aim to lead in sustainable ship recycling,” he said at the Ras Al Khaimah Investment and Business Summit (RAKIS). “This project supports global environmental goals and sets an example for the region.”
Green Innovation at Saqr 2.0
Saqr 2.0’s key feature is its green ship recycling facility. This eco-friendly system will dismantle large vessels in a sustainable way. It shows Ras Al Khaimah’s commitment to the environment.
The Al-Jazeera shipyard will also move to Saqr 2.0. This will improve operations and services like yacht maintenance and logistics.
Benefits of RAK Maritime City Free Zone
The RAK Maritime City Free Zone, part of Saqr 2.0, has many benefits. The berths go as deep as 18 meters, allowing it to handle Capesized Vessels. The free zone will also support large projects and partner with groups like RAK Gas on alternative energy.
A New Era for Ras Al Khaimah
Saqr 2.0 is key to RAK Ports’ growth plan. The focus is on efficiency, sustainability, and creating value for industries.
“Saqr 2.0 is more than just a port,” Cummins said. “It’s a platform for global supply chains.”
This project will strengthen Ras Al Khaimah’s role in the maritime industry. It will work alongside Saqr Port, Al-Jeer Port, and Ras Al Khaimah Port, opening new growth opportunities.
